ARTIST STATEMENT

Philosophy

A good photographer draws on many talents to capture a wedding, such as his knowledge of light and composition, and his perception in understanding significant emotional moments. A truly artistic photographer goes a step further by also using his imagination to convey the atmosphere of the day.

I work as an artist first and foremost, and therefore I tend to take pictures of how you feel rather than merely how you look.

I am a photographer who doesn't like what commonly passes for "wedding photography." I feel that there is a more personal and artistic way to photograph weddings. I dislike one-size-fits-all packages so I custom fit my services to the bride and groom's individual needs. I also dislike the "cut the cake, I have to go" strategies of many photographers, which seems uncaring and impersonal. I book one wedding a day so I can give each couple my undivided attention. Many times I will book only one wedding a weekend since I am often hired to photograph the rehearsal dinner as well.

I shoot in an unobtrusive, photojournalistic style, blending into the background in order to catch those important, unplanned moments that make weddings singular events. One mother told me, "You were always there but never in the way."
